The Master's Degree programme allows students to analyse and focus on the sociological and demographic phenomena that may result in global instabilities as well as on the most efficient forms of prevention, investigation and repression, such as cooperation between police forces and judicial authorities at an international level and the use of the most advanced techniques of investigation. Graduates of the Master's Degree in Investigation, Crime and International Security will be able to satisfy the emerging demands of:the United Nations' Departments, Offices, Commissions, Programmes and Research Institutes dealing with public security and fighting against drug trafficking and criminal activity (e.g. Commission on Narcotic Drugs, Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, UNDCP, UNICRI, UNODC, UNHCR);the European Union's Offices and Agencies (FRONTEX, EUROPOL, EASO, CEPOL, EMCDDA) dealing with public security and fighting against terrorism;police forces and other components of the State;companies working or willing to work in socially or politically unstable areas;NGOs responding to humanitarian emergencies in countries at risk.Graduates will also be prepared to evaluate the threats to the democratic order and to the legal economy arising from organised crime and from politically or religiously motivated terrorist organisations. The first year focuses on the analysis of security-related problems, in particular:issues related to migrations and to contemporary geopolitics and identity, from a historical point of view;issues related to financial flows and to the corruption of the legal economy, from an economic point of view;rules of international law and of investigative and judicial cooperation as well as issues pertinent from a legal point of view to the contemporary world and to the political and institutional settings existing in unstable areas;trends that may cause one or more of the above-mentioned problems, from a sociological viewpoint.The second year allows students to explore the most common and efficient means of fighting international crime, with particular reference to those developed by innovative technologies. The Programme includes courses related to politology, law and economics as well as labs providing students with the chance to engage with highly qualified professionals and to simulate events and scenarios.Furthermore, particular attention is paid to the study of languages. The Programme includes the study of English at an advanced level, with particular reference to the terminology and phraseology used in the investigative and judicial cooperation domains. Moreover, 5 courses and the EU Project Management Lab are available in English. LabsThe study plan includes labs focused on security management, critical event management, intelligence and analysis of geopolitical areas, and EU project management.The Security Management and Intelligence Lab enables students to acquire specific skills thanks to their proactive involvement in dealing with topics such as security management, intelligence, and critical event management. The Lab includes the simulation of situations and events requiring a quick and efficient response in order to ensure the security of people and assets and minimise the losses resulting from terrorist attacks (including those carried out with unconventional tools).The Analysis of Geopolitical Areas Lab enables students to identify the most significant politically unstable areas and to analyse different areas using comparable social, cultural, political, military and ethnic parameters. For each area students will use relevant indicators and analyse their trends in both the recent past and today. They will also attempt to predict their evolution in the medium term. The Lab programme also includes the analysis of the consequences possibly arising from tensions in one area that may have a negative effect on Italy and other EU members. Such effects include: humanitarian emergencies, uncontrolled migration flows, and threats to Italian political, economic or industrial interests.The EU Project Management Lab is fully taught in English and enables students to acquire the fundamental rules of EU project management as well as the technical tools offered by the European Union. The Lab allows students to explore access to EU funds by learning how to formulate project ideas, how to identify the budget, how to prepare a draft of the project, and how to search for international partners in order to participate in calls proposed by the EU.The Crisis Communication Lab enables students to acquire specific skills aimed at effectively managing sudden critical events of various kinds, such as natural disasters and seismic, terrorist, chemical or biological pollution risks. The Lab focuses on the prevention and contrast of these factors and their potential global implication, with a particular attention paid to the strategies for contrasting and communicating critical issues. Techniques to promptly react to the attack and to minimize both response times and the possibility of making mistakes are addressed.Career opportunitiesThe Master's Degree in Investigation, Crime and International Security allows students to join institutions and organisations operating in the field of the investigation, prevention and repression of crime, also at a transnational level, as well as in the field of the repression of ideologically or religiously motivated terrorism. Graduates will be able to join public authorities and institutions operating at an international, European, national, regional and local level, as well as private companies, research centres, and NGOs.
