Internship opportunity at the British Embassy in Rome.

The British Embassy Climate team is seeking to hire an intern for a period of six months, ideally starting in December 2022.

The team deals with climate change, energy and nature, with a special emphasis this year on building on the legacy of the Glasgow Climate Pact agreed at COP26. Over the coming months the team will be delivering on a number of objectives in support of the UK government’s global climate change objectives. The team is also active in the Embassy’s corporate ‘Think Green’ activities, with initiatives for going beyond plastic and reaching net zero emissions.

The team collaborates closely with several Whitehall departments including the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Cabinet Office, the Department for Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy, the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs, as well as several Italian government Ministries, businesses and other stakeholders.

Main duties/ responsibilities

  •  monitoring policy developments in Italy in key areas of interest, including through media monitoring and desk research;
  •  regular reporting and updates on climate change, energy and nature issues;
  •  attending conferences/meetings and writing reports;
  •  providing support for the organisation and delivery of Embassy events, as well as inward and outward visits;
  •  supporting the team in their day-to-day work such as Italian/English translation and administrative tasks.

Required experience and skills

  • Enthusiasm, and ability to take initiative;
  • ability to work independently and stay on track;
  • flexible and a strong team player:
  • must be fluent in both spoken and written English and Italian.

Terms and conditions

The British Embassy only offers curricula internships, “tirocinio curricolare”. The ‘tirocinio curricolare’ is intended for undergraduate students, as part of their education/studies, or recently graduated students completing their academic path. The candidate will have to go through a selection process by way of an interview, both written and oral. Due to changes to local labour law, preference will be given to candidates who can complete the full six month internship and are not graduating during the internship.

The intern will be granted a number of credits (crediti formativi) as indicated by the university. The internship is not a work contract and as such is not paid. However the Embassy will pay the intern a monthly allowance of €350 per month. This amount is not subject to tax under current local legislation. The intern would be expected to work an average of 30 hours perweek, Monday to Friday, within the range of 09:00 a.m – 5:00 p.m. Some degree of flexibility is expected, mostly in case of seminars and events.

Applications

Applicants should send a CV and covering letter, setting out their motivation for applying and what they can bring to the role, in English. Applications without a covering letter will not be considered. Applications (covering letter + CV in English) will have to come through the university by 30th October 2022. Applications should be sent to candidature@unint.eu
