Eurolect Observatory Project

2015

13:30

Charlemagne Building

Nato all'interno dell'UNINT e coordinato dalla prof.ssa Laura Mori, il progetto sarà presentato nel corso di un seminario organizzato dalla DGT della Commissione europea ("Translating Europe")......

In the framework of the Translating Europe initiative, the Directorate-General for Translation of the European Commission is organizing a workshop where researchers will present the preliminary results of the Eurolect Observatory project.

Run by a network of 13 European Universities, the Eurolect project ("Eurolect Observatory. Interlingual and intralingual analysis of legal varieties in the EU setting") aims at analysing corpora of EU directives and national legal texts of transposition in Dutch, Finnish, French, English, German, Greek, Italian, Latvian, Maltese, Polish and Spanish. Fifteen researchers from the project will meet in Brussels to discuss preliminary findings and first trends emerged in the analysis of 11 Eurolects. They will share their findings with translators, terminologists and quality coordinators from EU language services, as well as with lawyer-linguists, students and researchers in the field.

If you are working with legislative translation in the EU setting, this is a unique opportunity to get some inspiration from researchers from throughout the EU.

More about the "Eurolect Observatory Project"

The 3-year project aims to achieve the following objectives:

  • To test and/or confirm the hypothesis that there are EU legal varieties (known as “Eurolects”) developed within in a few member States;
  • to highlight the differences between each Eurolect and its corresponding national legal variety;
  • to provide reference data to stakeholders or interested parties (the EU Language services, national and regional Parliaments, governing bodies of autonomous regions);
  • to produce results that may help improve the quality of legal drafting, both nationally and supranationally.

REGISTRATION EC staff can register to this Workshop via SYSLOG WEB TRAINING.
Other participants please register via email to DGT-TRANSLATING-EUROPE@ec.europa.eu.
Registration is open until 4 June 2015.
